Service provided

Mesh was engaged by Colac Otway Shire Council to prepare a Landscape and Visual Assessment for the Deans Creek PSP site.

Focal point

Deans Creek and Lake Colac form integral parts of the PSP area with direct views onto the lake and the creek traversing across the entire site.

What we did

From Mesh’s experience working on many PSP’s, we see the high value in landscape and visual assessments, as they have the potential to provide the most meaningful inputs in regards to urban design and neighbourhood character direction for these future growth areas. The Deans Creek Landscape and Visual Assessment will guide the future PSP process for the proposed growth area. This document aims to identify, protect, celebrate and enhance Deans Creek’s highly value landscape features. Some key features include: The visual connections to Lake Colac; The surrounding distant views out to Red Rock Volcanic Complex and the Otway Ranges Foothills; The semi-rural character of the Colac township. The landscape features identified in this report will represent the core elements of the future Deans Creek PSP area, aiming to provide net community benefits through enhanced biodiversity, extended trails, increased parkland, residential and commercial / employment precincts with premium vistas to Lake Colac and the Otway Ranges Foothills. The key objectives of this document are listed below: Identify topographical features Identify significant and potentially significant view lines, within the precinct and externally Perform an opportunities and constraints assessment Evaluate the relative significance of the natural and neighbourhood features Produce high level recommendations of how the identified significant features might be incorporated into the future PSP urban structure (written recommendations only, not place based).
